My first flight as a baby, at the feet of my mother, en-route to Australia from Holland aboard KLM the Royal Dutch Airlines, must have been when that love for travel was hatched. Daughter of a KLM pilot and ex air stewardess possibly had some influence as well.
Play forward 18 years and my first job in Travel with Trans Australia Airlines (TAA) in the Reservations Department, 50 Franklin Street, Melbourne began. The childhood dream to be an air hostess like my mother, was achieved on the ground, when I then moved onto Tullamarine airport to work as a Customer Services Supervisor for TAA.
A slight detour into Nursing for a few years was followed by a short move to the country. On return to the big smoke I moved into retail travel working in corporate travel for Traveland BHP. From here rose the opportunity to move onto a retail office, St Kilda Rd Travel, which was associated with an Asian wholesaler – Asian Dreams Holidays.
From here I moved onto another Wholesale company – Pacific Island Holidays, as a Sales Manager. Amongst my many duties, was the arduous task of coordinating and escorting Travel Agents to areas of the Pacific to experience destinations first hand, so they could best promote them to their clients. Destinations such as Fiji, Vanuatu, Hawaii, New Caledonia, Micronesia and Somoa. A horrible job, but someone had to do it!
Then along came the babies. Two boys later and I returned to work part time at Laser Travel in Mentone as a Senior Travel Consultant. This was mixed with part time nursing but eventually my love for the travel industry moved me into a full time position. A move closer to home and I began work at Chelsea Travel, again as senior consultant specializing in both retail leisure and corporate Travel.
Those boys I mentioned earlier, now grown and entering teenager hood…were the impetus for me to look towards starting my own business from home. With the support of my corporate clients who had been with me for over 5 years, and a handful of faithful leisure clients I took the plunge and have not looked back, now moving into my fourth year working from home.
I have been very fortunate to work in varied fields of the Travel Industry, thereby giving me a wider perspective of the booking processes involved in planning your travel.
